Stephen Maguire and Dave Gilbert were full of praise for each other as players and people ahead of their World Championship clash, but they will be ready for battle at the Crucible.

Both men are former semi-finalists but had to come through qualifying after disappointing results over the last couple of years.

However, they have shown their quality so far at the Crucible, with Maguire beating Ali Carter and Shaun Murphy, while Gilbert has downed defending champion Luca Brecel and Rob Milkins.

With the clash set for the quarter-finals, it will be a contest that has been played out ever since their junior days, and they are still going at each other in their 40s.

'I've been a Stephen Maguire fan since we were kids,' Gilbert told Metro. 'He was the one I looked at and thought would win everything. I'm amazed he's never won a world title.

'If I wasn't playing him I'd probably be hoping he did go on and win one, but obviously not this year. I think he's a top lad, he's always been straight with me and he's like that with everybody. He's a good guy.'

Maguire added: 'It's mad isn't it. To play Shaun and then Dave back-to-back, you're talking 11-years-old playing in junior tournaments. Young, ugly kids running about trying to pot balls. It's mad that we're still here 30 years later.

'I've always said Dave's a great player. He was a great junior. It took him a while to break through, but everybody rates Dave, that big cue action with the long backswing. He's good to watch.

'He's a cracking boy off the table. He was a good junior, I was decent. We're doing well. We're doing all right for ourselves.'

Gilbert sees it as an even contest but will be drawing on fond memories of a quarter-final win over Maguire at the Masters in 2020, feeling that he is returning to that kind of form.

'I think it probably is a 50-50 game If I play well I can win, if Stephen plays well he can win. I think it'll be a great game,' said the Angry Farmer.

Maguire was fired up during his second round win over Shaun Murphy (Picture: Getty Images)

'We haven't played that much over the years. The Masters was probably the last time I felt I could play the game, so hopefully it's the same feeling and same result.

'That was one of my best wins, such a big thing playing at the Masters for the first time and I felt like I handled it really well. Hopefully more of the same again.

'We've both struggled but our rankings probably aren't correct. We're both better than about 32 in the world. We've both not done so well lately. But he's had a fantastic career, nearly every snooker player would swap with him.

'He's obviously still got game, he's in the quarter-finals and probably feeling confident like I am.'

Gilbert and Maguire begin their quarter-final contest at 10am on Tuesday at the Crucible.

IF you know only one thing about competitive Pokémon, that thing is probably a single name: Wolfe Glick.

He is the most decorated player in the game's history as an eight-time Regional champion, a Player's Cup champion, and an International champion.

Glick was proud of his team that took him to 13th place at EUIC[/caption]

Best known as the 2016 Worlds champion, the 'World Champ difference' has allowed him to amass over a million subscribers on YouTube.

Here he breaks down competitive Pokémon, makes creative documentaries, and offers viewers insights into how a top trainer thinks.

He most recently attended the European International Championships in London, the largest Pokémon tournament to date.

From the comfort of your home, you don't realise how taxing these tournaments are on players.

The first round on day one of EUIC began at 9am, and players didn't finish their ninth round of the day until past 8pm.

Glick tells The Sun: "I'm definitely tired.

"Tournaments in general are so difficult and so stressful and require so much focus — doing it in a foreign country definitely adds a whole other layer.

"I think my stamina has gotten pretty good. There are tournaments where I've been exhausted by the end of the day, but I feel pretty good here.

"I've gotten a lot better at working on my mental game and just understanding how to relieve myself of some of the external factors that tend to make the tournament feel longer.

"A lot of the tournament is actually waiting. You finish a set and you have like 20 or 30 minutes sometimes before the next game.

"So seeing that time as a relief rather than an additional stressor is something I've done really well in my past few tournaments."

Glick owes his fame online to his success at playing Pokémon but, after speaking to him, these two aspects feel at odds with each other.

If you were at the event you will have seen big name creators such as Aaron Zheng, James Baek, and even other World champions like Eduardo Cunha and Shohei Kimura freely walking around the hall.

The same cannot be said for Glick who often finishes sets, marches to hand in his slip and quickly snaps a few pictures with overwhelmed fans before disappearing from sight.

He tells us: "It's definitely a blessing to be in the position that I'm in.

"But there are additional challenges that come with it, where I find that doing well as a competitor and a content creator are a bit at odds.

"You really want to be very selfish and think, 'What do I need right now? How do I look after myself as a competitor?'

"But you really want to make sure that you're doing what other people need.

"Someone might come up to you and say, 'Oh you're Wolfe, hi', but they didn't really think ahead, so they don't know what to say.

"They just stand there, so I have to drive the conversation, I have to think, 'Okay, are they comfortable?' and I'll ask questions about them.

"It's a little bit difficult to switch between these two disparate modes, especially when I really do care about competing and doing all of these [tournaments].

"So it's an additional challenge that I have to face, but it comes from a good thing.

"It's really difficult to balance being a creator and being a player, especially as my reach as a VGC creator is so much bigger than I think.

"The space isn't really designed to handle it, and it's really important to me to take my role and responsibility seriously.

"For most tournaments I find a little hidey hole, and I'll talk to people on the way to and from there, but I try to have my own space. It's tough.

"People see you and they don't know the context. Being asked for a picture right after you learn you have been kicked out of the tournament feels really bad.

"It's like, 'I just lost. I just want to reflect. I just want to be alone'.

"I tend to try and just find a space where I'll have a little less traffic, and go chill there with my friends."

One early round in particular, Glick and his opponent were sitting directly next to a pathway where spectators could freely walk past and stand to watch him.

He was playing Diego Bonome Garrido, a trainer playing a slow Trick Room team, featuring bulky Pokémon like Porygon 2, Wo Chien, Raging Bolt and Enamorus.

Because of this, Glick's match was the last to finish, and by the time he stood victorious, a crowd of around a hundred had gathered to watch him play, including some of his biggest competition.

Among these players was Alex Gómez, who faced and beat Glick in Round 14, paving his way to come third in the entire tournament, while knocking Glick out of a Top 8 position.

Glick says: "There was a time when that would have bothered me, but I'm really grateful that we use open team sheets [a form that players swap before a match with details of that person's team] now.

"Back in the day, the information you could glean from sitting next to someone and looking at their screen was massive.

"And because I'm such a high profile player, that would make me the target of any information they could get. My team would be out there by Round 2 and everyone would know about it.

"With open team sheets it doesn't really bother me anymore, because I'll get that information as well.

"I ended up losing to Alex today, but honestly I'm not upset that I missed top cut.

"It's my third time missing top cut to resistance [Glick won as many matches as the Top 8 players, but the players he beat didn't win enough matches for him to progress] in a big tournament like this.

"I would have liked to have gone further, but one thing you need to learn if you're going to play competitive Pokémon is that how well you do and the result aren't always directly related.

"Sometimes you have a great tournament, where you feel you did everything right, but you don't get the result you want.

"And sometimes you feel you weren't playing that well but you get really lucky and end up getting a good finish.

"I can be proud of this result, because I'm proud of myself for locking in today and playing good Pokémon."

The Fortnite x Avatar event appears in-game as the Elements Pass, a special reward track that requires you to do quests to unlock skins and cosmetics from the animated show.

As you complete quests and master the elements you gain Chi and Chakras, which you then use to unlock rewards on the double-track pass.

Each quest earns you a set amount of Chi, new quests arrive every three days, and completing all quests in one group earns you a Chakra.

Collecting all six Chakras will unlock the exclusive Appa Glider based on the flying bison from the show.

Here's a rundown of all Avatar Elements quests available right now, and the rewards you can earn through the Elements mini battle pass.

"Great for lunch breaks, commutes, and in bed. Does not connect to the TV, but not a big deal due to the price."

One wrote: "Great deal. Switch came really fast and in great condition. Setting it up was a breeze and the inclusion of the entire Animal Crossing game was a great deal, especially because it's a great game on its own.

"Definitely a no brainer if you're interested in the game and want a super portable Switch console."

And another added: "Better value than the regular one.

FINAL Fantasy 16 has just released its second and final DLC known as the Rising Tide.

This one focuses on a new Eikon Leviathan, and your journey to take down and save it.

The Rising Tide will give you more FF16 if that's what you're hoping for[/caption]

The main game had moments that made it feel like a GOTY competitor but over the 60-hour runtime it began to drag.

This new DLC hopes that you fondly remember the base game and delivers you a whole lot more of it.

Like Final Fantasy 15's DLC, the DLC for FF16 adds new playable characters and new mechanics to the game.

Just like how FF7 Remake Intergrade introduced Yuffie and all of her combat abilities, introducing Leviathan means more combat abilities in your arsenal.

Leviathan's power is based around water, and the enemies will struggle to get close to you with these powerful ranged attacks.

Fans of FF16 will enjoy how Rising Tide subtly adds to the game's lore, and in fact adds to the series lore as a whole.

The introduction of the village of Mysidian people slots in nicely with the story of the main game, with small details making it feel a true part of the original world.

We hoped that Jill would get a little more screen time for development, but she only steps forward for a small part of the DLC.

This was one of our main observations in our original review. FF16 has a number of excellent characters, but it never gives them the room to breathe.

The pacing is the other issue we had which The Rising Tide doesn't fix.

If you didn't like the main game, then there is nothing in The Rising Tide that will convince you it's a game worth playing.

However, it has considerably more content than the first DLC, Echoes of the Fallen, but it is all part of the same package.

If watching Clive Rosfield defying the gods is what you're into then there is plenty of that here.

SUIKODEN is one of the best JRPG series, but it had its heyday back when the PS One was king.

Eiyuden Chronicle is the spiritual successor to the Suikoden series and it almost lives up to its incredible legacy.

More than anything, Eiyuden Chronicle is a tribute to the fans, and a new entry to the series in everything but name.

It offers a fresh take on the Suikoden games, while offering everything that gave the classics such a huge fanbase.

You're a young commoner that is given the task of building a resistance farce to fight against an imperial army with crooked nobles.

As the name Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes suggests, you can recruit up to 100 people to take part in turn-based battles.

These come in three types: your traditional combat, duels, and wars. It also has other traditional Suikoden features like base-building, minigames and a virtual economy.

You might have 100 people in your army, but you can only take up to six characters in traditional battles, though large allies will take up more than one slot.

This means you can make good synergies within your team by adding heroes who buff, heal and deal physical or magical damage.

Every character has their use, and you'll find that missing a piece of the puzzle will significantly reduce your chances of success.

Then you need to consider who sits in the front or back row based on how much damage they take and deal, and it adds a further tactical layer.

Some won't like the way Eiyuden Chronicle approaches random encounters, where even basic fights can be a grind.

However, you can auto-battle these and save your strength for the gruelling boss fights.

The focus – as with all Suikoden games – is on building your base and your army, and this is where it shines.

You collect resources as you travel, and different partners will use specific skills to build up your base.

Wars play out like most strategy games where you build small units to take on the opposing army.

Then it switches things up again by introducing one-on-one duels for specific conflicts and rivalries.

The strength of having this huge amount of characters is that there are dozens of compelling ones, so everyone can find a favourite.

The minigames aren't as compelling as you'll remember from games like Suikoden 2, and the war battles are relatively simple when you have the strength in numbers.

Fans of Suikoden will certainly enjoy Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes as a worthy successor, but it may be a little inaccessible to modern players.

THE Last of Us opened up the world of video game stories to those who only watch TV, so it seems right that another post-apocalyptic series would try to take the crown of best video game adaptation.

Despite the similarity of the situations, those who have played both game series know the tone is completely different.

The humans on the surface aren't what Lucy was expecting
Prime Video

Even on console, The Last of Us is a dark drama about relationships and loneliness, while Fallout has a goofy sense of humour that carries over into the show.

Set in an alternate, retro-futuristic 1950s USA, the show begins with the dropping of a nuclear bomb on LA.

Then there's another, and a few more, and it works as a horrifying backdrop to American suburbia.

We fast forward a few hundred years, and humanity now lives entirely in underground vaults.

Lucy MacLean wanders out into the wasteland that is post-apocalyptic LA in search of her missing father, only to find that humans still live on the surface, in a way.

The humans left on the surface have morphed into immortal ghouls via the radiation, and have little humanity left.

Lucy's naivety to the horrors going on above ground works as a great entry point for the audience who are equally in the dark.

Instead of dark drama, the situation is played for laughs as shootouts are balanced out with jaunty '30s tunes.

There are still moments of horror though, from the brutal militarism of The Brotherhood of Steel, to a remorseless ghoul bounty hunter.

Aside from Lucy, Maximus of the Brotherhood, and The Ghoul round out our trio of protagonists all with intertwining stories.

Fallout shines in its execution, with line delivery that catches you off guard, and wacky situations that trip you up.

It's this marriage of the horrific with the hilarious that makes Fallout so endearing.

It can be gruesome at times, with the show not afraid to carve off a limb or split a head in two, but there's a lightness of touch that offsets the weighty themes of nuclear destruction.

Fallout also explores the world before the apocalypse, something that you don't see in the games.

During the nearly 30-minute interview, the actress mentioned how "we shut down the world," referring to the pandemic

"You had to be with just you," Sharon pointed out.

"Now, that was great for people who wanted to learn to bake bread. The whole world wanted to learn to bake bread."

"I wanted to get back to my painting. But for those people who don't like who they got to be, one in 10 people on a global level are having a mental problem, mental crisis."

"We're all trying to confront our demons and we're all acting out. Me too," the Casino star admitted.

"And trying to figure out how to keep getting back up, keep helping people even if we put them down, and make sure we're all back up, and what do we do?"

"It must start with the individual. You must stand strong. And when you blow it. Okay, so what?" she emphasized.

"You have to get back up, get yourself together, and help whoever you think you bumped around.

"And keep moving forward, and instant forgiveness. Instant forgiveness for yourself," Sharon concluded.

The lengthy conversation then steered to Sharon's activism efforts.

As the interview continued, Sharon became teary-eyed as the interviewer mentioned she was picked as a Peace Summit Award 2013 Laureate recipient.

In 2013, The Quick and the Dead star was also awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for her HIV charities.

"Suddenly, I was like, 'I'm in the right goddamn room.'" the 66-year-old shared.

"These are my people. I would stand in the street with these people. I would risk my life for these people."

Here are some movies and TV shows Sharon Stone has been on besides Basic Instinct:

"These people get me, I get them," she choked up.

"It took 35 years, but I'm in the right room."

"You don't get to save lives winning a Golden Globe, do you know what I mean?" she teared up.

'A FASCINATING PERSON'

In an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun, Alex revealed what he learned from the actress-turned-painter.

"Sharon Stone is a fascinating person to interview – a lovely human being," Alex said.

"Right now, she has found personal fulfillment in her painting and her work for the United Nations."

"However, she also gave a clear signal of a return to the silver screen when offered a significant role worthy of her talents," he added.

"All in all, Sharon Stone was a joy to work with on TRT World."

During the video interview, The Antz voice actress showed off her paintings as she ditched Hollywood and became a full-time artist.
